Our Services
Spirometry
Performed to evaluate basic lung function. A bronchodilator may be used during the test.
Diffusing capacity
Gas transfer factor measurement
Performed to evaluate ability of the lung in exchanging gas. Values are important in patients with emphysema or lung fibrosis.
Lung volume measurement
Body plethysmography
Body Box
Performed to evaluate the presence of gas trapping such as in emphysema and degree of restriction from lung disease.
FeNO
(Fractional exhaled nitric oxide)
Performed to look for airway inflammation of eosinophilic nature seen in some asthma patients.
Maximal inspiratory and expiratory muscle pressures
Performed to look for weakness of the respiratory muscles in the investigation of breathlessness.
Bronchial provocation challenge test
Mannitol challenge test
Performed when asthma is suspected but spirometry is normal. Certain medications will need to be stopped prior to the test.

Do not have a large meal within 2 hours of testing or smoke on the day prior.
In Preparation for Your Test
If it is safe for you to do so (please check with your referring doctor):
- No Ventolin, Asmol, Atrovent, Bricanyl, Airomir 4hours prior to the test
- No Serevent, Seretide, Symbicort, Flutiform, Flixotide, Alvesco, Pulmicort, Bretaris, Brimica 12hours prior to the test
- No Spiriva, Incruse, Seebri, Onbrez, Spiolto, Anoro, Ultibro, Breo, Trelegy 24hours prior to the test
You do not need to fast before any of the tests. However, please:
- Do not have a large meal within 2 hours of testing;
- Do not smoke on the day prior to the test

Cost
All services are bulk billed via Medicare and are at no cost to our patients. It is essential that a referral from your general practitioner or specialist is provided before or on the day of the test. Please bring your Medicare card on the day of your test.
